Based high up on the famous White Cliffs of Dover between Dover and Deal you’ll find the beautiful, James Braid designed, Walmer and Kingsdown Golf Course. It’s a very playable course with some unique challenges in truly wonderful surroundings, but what makes us really special is the club atmosphere and the diversity of people that come to play.

The course is played on the east and west side of a ridge on top of the Downs overlooking the village of Kingsdown with a refreshing sea breeze and incredible views of the English Channel. It’s a downland course measuring 6471 yards off the white tees and offers challenges for all abilities. The superb condition and challenges of the course, the stunning location and views plus the clubhouse facilities and catering combine to deliver a memorable experience that ensures visitors return again and again.

This was a golf club always intended to bring new players to the game, right from its opening in 1909. Most importantly this is a course for men, ladies, juniors and learners; all are welcome here to enjoy the game and the scenery and something good to eat and drink afterwards.

They welcome visitors and society bookings and are able to arrange a variety of packages to suit your needs. The Professional, Jude Read, runs a golf academy and is available for lessons and can provide prizes or souvenirs like tee off photos and video.

The Clarendon Hotel, a 1763 sea fronted hotel which occupies an enviable position overlooking Deal Pier and The English Channel, offers good value, modern accommodation and a warm welcome to all its visitors.

Having undergone a major refurbishment in 2015,  a second phase in 2018 and a recent update in early 2024, The Clarendon now portrays an attractive ‘seaside’ feel hotel with uniquely themed rooms and suites throughout, some with stunning sea views. The hotel offers 18 en-suite rooms which include 6 wonderful suites; The Addelam, The Goodwin, The Sunrise, The Lighthouse, The Bernadette and The Smugglers Cabin. All suites and many rooms have direct views to Deal Pier, Deal Beach and beyond.

All our spotlessly clean rooms are well equipped, with a flat-screen TV, tea/coffee-making facilities, fridge, ironing board / iron, free WiFi, work area and a private bathroom with luxury Sea Kelp toiletries and a hairdryer. Suites come equipped with Coffee Machines, Microwave ovens and table & chairs for those with families or staying a little longer. Higher guest rooms have views of the coastline and the shores of France on a clear day although please note we have no lift but we do have beautiful Ground Floor suites for those who prefer less steps. One suite has ground floor stepless / disabled access.

Guests are just a 5-minute walk from central Deal’s rail station and a great range of shops, bars and restaurants. Deal Pier is moments away on foot for those partaking in a little sea fishing or just a stroll to take in the sea-air !
