The Twenty Ten
No golf fan will ever forget Graeme McDowell with his arms aloft after holding his crucial birdie putt on the 16th hole or the rapturous scenes of celebration that followed when he sealed the triumph on the next green. The spectacular Twenty Ten Course was purpose-built for the drama of team match play with water featuring on nine of the 18 holes and risk-and-reward challenges lurking around every corner. From lacing up your shoes at the same lockers which still carry the name plaques of the Ryder Cup players to a post-round drink on the clubhouse balcony where Europe sprayed champagne over their supporters, there is a special atmosphere to every moment on the Twenty Ten Course. Set against the magnificent backdrop of the beautiful Usk Valley, the 7,493-yard layout is complemented by a luxurious clubhouse with bar and restaurant, balconies offering panoramic views of the course, spike bar, pro shop, private members’ lounge and sumptuous locker rooms.
The Roman Road
Designed by Robert Trent Jones and host venue for the Wales Open from 2005 to 2007, the Roman Road championship course takes its name from the ancient east to west highway of Roman Britain crossing its fairways to the nearby fortress town of Caerleon. Bordered by woodland, this challenging track features some long, open fairways but also a number of twists and turns, through trees and across streams and a lake, as well as some treacherous sloping greens. The Roman Road staged the Wales Senior Open in 2015 and 2016, and is also the home of the Celebrity Cup.
The Montgomerie
Featuring some dramatic tee shots over valleys and breath-taking downhill approaches, course designer Colin Montgomerie has called on all his Ryder Cup experience to create many exciting tests of strategy. He has also drawn on his roots in Scottish links golf to create a traditional feel, enhanced by deep and penal pot bunkers and complemented by some stunning views over the Usk Valley and Severn Estuary. The Montgomerie has played host to the next generation of tour professionals on the EuroPro Tour.
