Royal County Down is located in one of the world’s most naturally beautiful links settings in the Murlough Nature Reserve. Against the magnificent backdrop of the Mountains of Mourne, the links stretches along the shores of Dundrum Bay, zigzagging back and forth to provide a different vista from virtually every hole.
“Royal County Down is a pure links, in the truest sense of the word. My advice to anyone playing this great course is to keep it very straight off the tee – stray from the fairways at your peril,It is a tremendous test of golf and the outward half especially is as fine a nine holes as I have ever played” TOM WATSON
Situated in Newcastle, where in the immortal words of Percy French, “The Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea”, Royal County Down is not only a fine test of golf but has accompanying scenery that is spellbinding.
Alongside the Championship Links, Royal County Down has a second course, The Annesley Links. Laid out beneath the same massive, almost menacing backdrop, the Annesley Links is nowhere near as intimidating or as formidable a challenge as the Championship Links, but then it was never intended to be.
It is a course for everyone.
Visting golfers are always given a very warm welcome at Royal County Down.
After your round, why not enjoy a drink in the Murlough Room, which has views of the 18th green, the 10th tee and the Mountains of Mourne. The bar and dining room offer visiting golfers the opportunity to relax in comfort after their round. A menu which includes both light snacks and more substantial meals, all freshly prepared, is available throughout the day, as is the fully licensed bar.
