Leckford Golf Club

Leckford Golf Courses are set in the charismatic village of the same name, sited overlooking the River Test; the river world famous for the quality of the trout fishing. The golf courses are unique in many respects, comprising two distinct nine hole courses, each of which was designed by the most influential course architect of their age. In the Edwardian era, Harry Colt was supreme, and in the modern Elizabethan age Donald Steel reigned, and the work of both is captured in the two courses at Leckford.

The estate and the golf courses are owned by the John Lewis Partnership, it is operated primarily for the use of Partners, their families and guests. The Old Course was opened in 1929 and it has remained much as Colt designed it. It is recognised as one of the finest and most challenging nine hole courses in the country, and fully justifies the description of being a ‘hidden gem’. The New Course is modern and creates the ideal complement to the Old, and the terrain of both is ideal, flint based chalk downland, with perfect drainage and excellent turf growing characteristics. This means that the course is playable all the year round, and only snow or very severe frost close them for play.

Top quality courses are easily the most popular with wannabe golfers – that’s us all, let’s face it – who want to test their skills on the sort of courses that the pros take on. Few in Hampshire come close to rivalling that at Leckford and Longstock Golf Club, a truly fabulous long design that has plenty of challenges waiting to judge exactly how good a player you are.

Water comes into play on several holes with plenty of lakes dotted around the course. Perhaps, though, the signature hole of the course would have to be the twelfth, which has an island green that you’ll need to judge just right or you could find your ball landing in a watery grave – taking your scorecard’s respectability with it.

Looking over the 9th, you can enjoy the scenery from the Clubhouse lounge or outside on the terrace. Our welcoming clubhouse retains all the character of the original building while providing you with an informal lounge area where you can kick back with a drink and enjoy the view. There are ladies and gents changing areas with showers, a fully equipped kitchen area and drinks and snacks available from our vending machines.

Many visitng golfers return each year to enjoy the challenge of the Leckford courses. A minimum number of eight players are required to book for one of the society packages.
