Banchory Golf Club

Green Fees From: £35

Set within mature forests of pine and silver birch upon ancient, stepped banks of the majestic River Dee, Banchory Golf Club has been welcoming members and visitors with its renowned hospitality for well over a century. The nearby foothills of the Grampian mountains feed the river which gently strokes the course on its path past Braemar and Royal Deeside, eventually reaching the sea nineteen miles away in Aberdeen.

The perfect venue for an outing, this for par-69 course of just under 5900 yards features three par-5s and a tantalising number of par-3s (six), so it’s got everything to test the higher handicapper as well as the low. Those par-3s on their own provide a tantalising test for members with an average of bogey being scored off the yellows, so any visiting group is assured of plenty of fun.

Strategically placed bunkers, mature native trees and the “magnetic” River Dee provide obstacles that can test even the most accomplished player.

Winding its way through the forest, the fairways lift and drop the player between the course’s two levels, navigating the wide river bank and flipping the direction of play back and forth. Any offering of help from a breeze whistling down the valley is soon snatched away again. Explosions of coloured azalea and rhododendron form a backdrop in the season, and it’s hard not to pause and reflect on how beautiful a course this is.

After your golf, take some time to experience the warm welcome in our uniquely octagonal Clubhouse, and the historical old round mill now used by the well-stocked Professional’s Shop.

This royal gem sits right at the heart of a landscape brimming with majestic scenery, and proves that course length certainly plays second to providing the visiting golfer with memorable and surprising challenges. We look forward to welcoming you to Banchory Golf Club.

Visitors and societies are welcomed by our course’s memorable challenges, unexpected scenery and a variety of par-3s which will test the nerve of any golfer. The exceptional views across the course, which you’ll enjoy from our distinctive round clubhouse, provide both members and visitors with ever-changing distractions as the sun moves west across the nearby heather-clad hills. It’s the perfect place for relaxing in the company of friends and where a quiet drink, savoury snack or something more substantial can be provided in our comfortable lounge, more formal dining room or our glass-fronted balcony which overlooks our famous 16th green.

You can always rely on a warm, friendly service and we provide the very best value using locally-sourced fayre. Societies enjoy their regular visits to the course, and feel immediately at ease mixing with our members where they’ll discuss what lies ahead on the 1st tee or, later in the Club, how much fun they once again found their game to be.

Proctors Cottage

Proctor’s holiday Cottage is a delightful four-bedroom dwelling house created as a home-from-home specifically for families getting together to sample the delights of our beautiful countryside, mountains, lochs, rivers, castles, golf courses, etc. and all washed down with our world-famous Scotch whiskies.
The Cottage was recently converted from a 130 year old steading (barn) and has been beautifully appointed. The thick granite walls, slated roof and double glazing throughout creates a spacious but cosy base for your Safari around some of the best scenery in the North East of Scotland.

The cottage, in the heart of castle country and a stone’s throw from Royal Deeside, is accessed by a 120 metre-long driveway with your privacy protected by electric gates.

There are some great walks locally and Aberdeen offers plenty of good restaurants and bars, as well as a theatre and shopping. The region boasts more castles per acre than anywhere else in the UK, so take time to soak up the historic past in the surrounding area. The cottage is close to Royal Deeside where the beautiful scenery begs to be explored. The area is rich in outdoor activities with several wildlife reserves nearby, forest walks, hillwalking around Lochnagar, as well as ancient monuments. The beach is only 12 miles away and there is a shop, pub and restaurant within 1 mile.

Golfers are amply catered for with over 20 courses within a 20-mile radius, including Banchory, Trump International Links, Royal Aberdeen and the local Westhill Golf Club and there are many other activities available.

Accommodation – The cottage comprises:
A large open plan Lounge, Kitchen and Diner, ideal for “Aprés touristing” relaxation and entertaining
A double / twin bedroom c/w en-suite shower room
Two twin bedrooms c/w en-suite shower rooms
A fourth twin bedroom (next to main bathroom)
The main bathroom with separate shower cubical.
We can also make available if required; an extra Z bed to turn the double bedroom into a twin, a travel cot and high chair.
As mentioned above, three of the twin bedrooms have en-suite shower rooms and the fourth twin bedroom is next door to the main bathroom which has a bath and separate shower cubical. The four showers available were put in place so that up to eight keen holiday-makers could all get ready at the same time. The cottage has a large flat screen TV and Wi-fi.
Outside, there is a large patio with a table and seating for eight so on the odd occasion when it isn’t snowing, raining or blowing a gale in the height of summer, you can enjoy an evening bottle (or crate) of wine “Alfresco”
You can even fire up the Bar-B-Que if you want to increase your carbon footprint and remember, it’s not real food unless it’s black and crispy.

Also outside, in the cottage grounds, there is an all-weather putting green with four strategically placed holes to test your skills, two driving cages and two chipping target baskets so the early birds can get in some practice while the late-risers finish using the showers/having breakfast, etc.
Under-floor heating in the cottage ensures that if you do get caught in a shower or are brave enough to tackle our winter weather, you will always have a warm, dry comfortable base to return to.
