Welcome to Tain Golf Club in Ross-Shire, a traditional Scottish Highland links course designed by Old Tom Morris situated 9 miles south of Dornoch and 31 miles north of Inverness.

This Championship length links overlooking the Dornoch Firth arguably offers one of the best settings imaginable in the highlands for a round of golf. With sea on one side and the backdrop of the mountains behind, every day brings a different aspect to this challenging and beautiful course and the layout of the holes guarantees an interesting round for beginners or experts.

The sheltered location of the course ensures favourable weather for most of the year. With our clubhouse offering an excellent selection of drinks and fine dining at Old Tom’s Restaurant we are confident that you will want to return time and time again.

Favourite Hole – 17th. Black Bridge is one of the great par-3s requiring power and accuracy to avoid the snaking river.

The Castle Hotel is a cosy, friendly village pub with a view of the sea and the splendid sunsets over the distant mountains. . The bar provides a good selection of whiskies, including the local Glenmorangie and Dalmore, Scottish gins (some wonderful Highland distillations, including Sea Glass from Orkney and the distinctive Isle of Harris) and spicy rums. The kitchen provides good pub food with freshly made specials, the chef priding himself on making home-made dishes and desserts with local produce where possible. A wood fired pizza oven is stoked up from Thursday to Saturday to provide the best sourdough pizzas for miles around. Local musicians provide ad hoc musical performances as the spirit moves them.

There are four comfortable, attractive rooms, two with views of the sea, the others overlooking the terraced garden at the rear. The friendly team seek to give guests a warm welcome and make their stay as enjoyable as possible. No pretensions to luxury status but with an eye to small hospitable details (local Highland butter in a dish instead of fiddly wrapped butter portions, home-made potato scones instead of frozen cardboard versions), the Castle aims at providing good value in a wonderful sea setting, in a peaceful seaboard community, close to several golf clubs and local amenities.
