With small, well-guarded greens and sloping fairways, Richard Blake, the golf course designer, has set a challenge for all. There are many outstanding holes, including the monstrous 13th which, at 602 yards, is one of the longest in the country.

The stunning views over the vale of Pewsey (including the Alton Barnes White Horse) are complemented by several species of uncommon flowers including burnt tip, green winged and pyramid orchids.

The downland golf course is also home to skylarks, partridge – English and French – and quail. Birds of prey sharing this hunting ground include kestrels, barn and little owls and buzzards.

The golf club and Wiltshire Wildlife have worked closely together to ensure that nature and golfers can co-exist amicably at Upavon. With spectacular views, you have a superb downland location, offering a true test of golf.

The Red Lion at East Chisenbury has gained quite a reputation for providing the best of Wiltshire’s food, drink and accommodation in a truly beautiful setting.

The five riverfront rooms hold 5 AA Gold stars, plus 3 AA Rosettes and the Breakfast Award for the Red Lion’s polished pub fare and outstanding breakfast. Established in 2008, this gem has become a destination pub without losing it’s distinctively ‘pubby’ atmosphere and friendly, family-run approach.

Just steps away from the pub is the converted bungalow, sat right on the bank of the River Avon. Each of the 5 unique rooms boasts a private deck, uninterrupted countryside views and has been individually decorated and outfitted with all the best comforts & amenities. The Angelsea, Davenport & Chamberlain Room share the entrance hall, while The Benjamin Suite has its own entrance with small hallway for muddy boots. The Manser Room also has its own entrance and is tastefully suitable for guests who are less mobile. Dogs are welcome in some rooms by prior arrangement and there is a private room at the pub, perfect for groups and families staying together at the guest house.
